About this project
Skills Intelligence is an independent research project mapping the capabilities, learning dependencies, professional roles, and vocabulary of modern technical work. The current edition focuses on GenAI / Data Science 2026.
Here, skills intelligence means turning evidence about skills and roles into decisions about learning and change. The site is a public research artifact, not a commercial workforce platform, and it does not collect or infer employee profiles.
How the research is made
- Candidate concepts are assembled from public sources and independent AI research runs.
- Names are normalized, duplicates reconciled, and skills placed into a shared taxonomy.
- Prerequisites and ontology links are reviewed as explicit relations rather than implied by a flat list.
- Research-run coverage remains visible as 0/3–3/3. It is provenance, not a guarantee of correctness.
- Major datasets are versioned, and known limitations are published beside the result.
The first atlas used Anthropic Opus, OpenAI Deep Research, and Google Deep Think as independent discovery runs. Later editorial rebuilds added skills that those original runs did not surface, so the project deliberately avoids claiming universal three-model verification. The detailed protocol is in the methodology note.
Corrections and updates
The atlas, glossary, and role maps are point-in-time assessments. A correction should preserve the distinction between source evidence, model agreement, and editorial judgment. Material updates change the relevant version or page date; dates are not refreshed merely to make old content appear new.
Inspirations
- Metacademy (now defunct) — the prerequisite-graph approach to learning ML
- ThoughtWorks Technology Radar — periodic, opinionated publication format
- distill.pub — care for visual clarity in technical communication
Independence and license
The work is conducted using public sources and AI tools. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or derived from any employer's internal data or systems. Site content is published under CC BY 4.0 unless a page states otherwise; linked materials remain the property of their respective authors and publishers.
